Anyone who wants to keep their certification up to date cannot ignore one major development: ISTQB has thoroughly revised its Certified Tester AI Testing (CT-AI) certification. Version 2.0 has been in effect since April 21, 2026, and it completely departs from the old premise of “using AI for testing.” The new syllabus focuses exclusively on testing AI systems themselves: their probabilistic behavior, the so-called “oracle problem,” bias in input data, and testing techniques for machine learning models such as adversarial testing, metamorphic testing, and drift detection. Curiously, despite the more in-depth content, the course duration was shortened from 4 to 3 days.

In addition to CT-AI, ISTQB also launched a completely new certification in 2025: Certified Tester, Testing with Generative AI (CT-GenAI), approved on July 25, 2025. While CT-AI focuses on testing AI systems, CT-GenAI takes the opposite approach: using AI to test better and faster, with a focus on prompt engineering, risks such as hallucination and data protection, and concrete applications in existing testing tools.

The fact that this knowledge is no longer just a “nice-to-have” is evident from the World Quality Report 2025-26: 63% of respondents cite GenAI skills as the most important competency for quality professionals today, ahead of traditional testing skills. The job market also confirms this: AI is explicitly mentioned in 34% of QA job postings, with Playwright and AI testing tools ranking as the fastest-growing in-demand skills.
